My fear is that Medium’s recommendation system is becoming like those of other big online systems, biased to new stories and viral popularity but tone-deaf to quality. In principle, curation ought to help with quality, unless the curators are rewarded when they select articles that become popular. If things are as I fear then a writer seeking to be recognized through curation should focus on shallow, popular stories e.g. politics, relationships, explaining inspirational quotes, sex and violence, stories about pets, etc.

I tried to explain this in my article on Entertainmentification however at 17 minutes very few have had the courage to read it.
